Where did the idea come from?

You may have heard of puppy parties that dogs can go to mix and socialise with other dogs, you may even have heard of puppies bring brought into universities and work places to help young pups develop social skills and also offer some therapeutic time with people, well we thought why not kitties?

Our adorable kitties have changed our world, they offer us so much love, affection, and entertainment.  Starting with one adorable, gorgeous tabby named Ellie, who travelled with her owner to work, her mum’s, parent in-law, we soon noticed that wherever Ellie went she brought joy and love wherever she was, her calm, gentle and curious temperament meant she could adapt to pretty much any situation almost instantly. With the addition of Roxie, our stunning Ragdoll, the owners felt their only visitors for a few months was no longer to see them, but to see Roxie! Once we decided to add to our family, we thought how about we take these kitties and bring joy to others! Our precious fur babies are used to travelling for short distances and socialising with new people in different surroundings they are not fazed by anything and simply get on with what they like doing best, being picked up, cuddled, and played with.

Our loving gentle kitties, love bringing joy and fun, which will undoubtably improve the mental health and well being of anyone they are around. From workplaces to a kids pawty, they are just what you need to feel good.

There are lots of animal lovers out there, but for some thanks to our busy lives, we simply do not have time to have pets of our own. What a great opportunity to have fun and spend time with everyone’s favourite aged animal – kittens!

Why kittie therapy?

Because we think kitty therapy is purrfect. Even at the most conscientious workplace, the working day can be very stressful for employees and influence their mental health. We believe that cuddling and playing with kitties is an ideal way to redress the balance. Scientific studies have shown a positive effect from the activity of interacting with a pet, including decreasing blood pressure and reduced levels of cortisol.

Where are you based?

Paws for a Pawty based in the UK in Hertfordshire, so we mostly deliver our kitties therapy sessions in London and surrounding areas.

Are you insured?

Yes. We have public liability insurance as well as insurance for our kitties to ensure our events are covered to the finest detail.

What effect does this have on the kitties?

Our kitties get a great deal of socialisation from our events, which is essential to their development and a great basis for them to grow into happy, healthy cats. Ragdolls are sociable creatures, their gentle, mischievous and friendly nature meant they love to play and be around people.

The ideal opportunity to socialise kitties does not always present itself to every cat owner, but with Paws for a Pawty, the kitties are given a fun, positive atmosphere which is purrfect for them to become more used to meeting different people. Most cats love to socially distance themselves from new environments and people, but if socialised from a young age, they can become even more friendly and less anxious when there is a change in their environment.

The welfare of our kitties is our number one priority and each event is structured to absolutely ensure their care and happiness throughout it. The effect that these events have on our kitties can be even more positive and important than the interaction your staff members receive from the sessions. Your staff will benefit from being part of this important stage of a kitten’s development. During events we work on the basis of a ratio of 2:1 of people to kitties so the young kitties aren’t overwhelmed by it all. The kitties have nothing but a positive experience at our events.

Where do you get the kitties from? do you own them?

Yes, we do! All our kitties are part of our family and are raised in our loving home. We are registered GCCF Ragdoll breeders. We like to think we know quite a bit about the Ragdoll breed (but we’re always learning), from their personality to their colours and patterns, there’s so much to know about this stunning breed. We also hope to raise awareness of ethical and reputable breeding and what to avoid if you are thinking about giving a cat a forever home. The welfare and happiness of our kitties is at the heart of all that we do.

Are the kitties for sale?

We are registered breeders; however, we will not begin breeding our cats until they reach maturity. This will be when they are around two years of age. We can however put you in the right direction of a registered Ragdoll breeder, just ask.

Do the kittens get to have a break?

The events themselves are like a break for the kitties, as the events allow them to just get on with being the playful kitties that they are, so while many will play, some will just want to relax or sleep (and sleep they will!), so that’s exactly what they do. This is all about the kitties feeling safe, happy, and having fun in nice surroundings, and your work colleagues getting lost in the kitties’ life for a bit. We do have a break in proceedings also so our kitties can eat and digest without any distractions.

How many kittens are at an event?

We will have between 4-6 kittens at an event. This will depend on number of factors, including space, number of people and most importantly the mood of our kitties.

Where is the kitties mum while they are off having fun?

Our kitties left their mummy some time ago, and are in their forever home (with us!) they do have a mummy, Ellie Mae Rose (you can find out about her here) who on some occasions does like to mother the kittens, but Ellie does also enjoy her space away from these little nutcases. So, whilst the kitties are away, the big cat is relaxing at home (most likely jumping on beds and sofa – it is what you do when you are home alone right?). The time away from these little mischievous babies, is beneficial for our little Ellie!

How are the kittens transported to the event?

We’re glad you asked! Our kitties are used to travelling in cars, be it in their carrier or a special cat cage. They even know how to jump into a travel rucksack (but that’s on another page on this website!). Their safety and wellbeing is of the highest importance to us. The vehicle has a camera at the back to ensure we can see them at every angle. Most of the time they do what all kitties love to do, sleep! Getting the experience of travelling with their siblings is one of the most fun aspects for our kitties it also helps them to get used to being in the car (especially when it’s time to pop to the vets argh!).

Do the kitties eat at the event?

Yes. We’ll take care of that, please don’t bring food to the event. Kitties have their breakfast when we arrive to ensure travelling is comfortable for them.

Where do the kitties go when the pawty is over?

They go home, back to causing mayhem and the usual havoc.

What happens at the event?

At our events, small groups of employees come along to our specially constructed kitten spaces in the workplace and get to spend precious time with beautiful kittens who want to play and cuddle and have fun being kittens.

Our play areas are comfortable for the kittens and the employees and offer spaces for the kittens to relax if it all gets a bit too exciting. Basically, busy staff are encouraged to take a break from their relentless schedules and to come along and play with beautiful kittens for a while, then heading back to their desks feeling uplifted and energised and ready to work well. Our sessions last around 30 minutes per group.

What hygiene measures do you take?

We set up our own artificial turf which is completely sanitised for every event. Staff have to remove shoes and lanyards to join in with our sessions and are provided with antibacterial gel for their hands and fresh blankets for their clothes. We use a veterinary-approved sanitiser to kill viruses that may have an effect on kittens, minimising as much risk as possible, just to be extra safe.

What about allergies?

We bring along air filters with HEPA and active carbon filters which remove 99.97% of allergens, dust, pollen, smoke and pet dander. Combined with our enclosed set up, we minimise the spread of allergens as much as possible.

Can I take photos at the event?

Yes, go for it! If you post them on social media, please tag us so we can share the joy!

Have Paws for a Pawty been to offices that aren’t pet-friendly?

Yes, we have. It’s good to note here that the kittens never come into contact with office spaces themselves. Once they arrive in their kitten travel crate, they are taken straight to the area where the event will take place, upon artificial turf with a special protective underlay.

What are the room requirements to stage one of your events?

The minimum requirement is a space 6mx6m, but if you can offer us a bigger space then that’s great too! We monitor the temperature of our space also, to ensure our kittens comfort throughout the day. We like to set up quickly when we get to your location, so if any chairs or desks can be cleared away prior to our arrival, that would be a huge help. We always complete a risk assessment prior to the event day to make sure the place is suitable for our kittens. Board rooms or enclosed office spaces work super well.

Can we bring children to the event?

You can book a pawty for a work event or a children’s party (minimum age is 5 years old, the child/ren must be supervised by a parent, carer or responsible adult).

What do I wear to an event?

There is no dress code at a Paws for a Pawty event, but we do ask that you take off your shoes, loose jewellery and any lanyards. We provide throws to cover up clothing (also for the kittens to get nice and comfy). And don’t worry about cat hair – we provide lint rollers to remove any kitten hair from your threads, but kitten don’t really moult all that much anyway. Please ensure your clothes are clean.

What about waste? Will there be mess everywhere at the end of the event?

Nope. Paws for a Pawty will clear away any mess and take it with us at the end of the day. We make sure the room is left as it was when we arrived.

How do we book an event?

Head over to our booking page. Fill in your details and we’ll get back to you asap.

Do you offer half-day events or events over multiple days?

We do, however, the booking fee remains the same as a full-day event in order to cover the costs of staging the event safely. If the company is large enough, we’re happy to facilitate events over multiple days so plenty of colleagues can spend some time with our kitties.
